Course Description:

Religious Education 1 is the introductory course of the Theology Program. It introduces students to the basics of doing theology at the college level in today’s Philippines. Theology is a journey of faith seeking understanding. It is undertaken to arrive answers to the fundamental questions of the meaning and purpose of human existence in the light of the rich sources of Catholic faith, Sacred scripture, Sacred tradition and Human Experience. This on-going search carried out in the context of the Philippines today, dialoguing with the individual stories of faith of each our students.

Initium Fidei, hopes to provide students with basic, introductory material to engage and grapple with some of the most important concepts in Theology that will better prepare them for theological discourse in the future.

  This subject includes the ff. topics: An introduction to the human Search for Meaning, Spirituality, the Sources of Theology (Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition and Human Experience), Grace, Revelation and Faith.


Learning Outcomes

1.   Demonstrate an inculturated integration of the student’s narrative of Christian faith, in dialogue with the opportunities and challenges of daily life in the Philippine context.

 

2. Appraise the presence of grace in one’s life, particularly in light of the realities of God’s revelation and the response of faith.

 

3. Develop avenues of spiritual and theological growth in a life of a Christian faith, hope and love in the service of their neighbour, the world and the Church.
